Track · Category Tracking
Who does AI name when nobody has asked about your client yet?
Most buyers don't start with a brand. They ask AI who the options are, and whoever gets named makes the shortlist. Category Tracking points the Spyglasses AI visibility platform at a whole market instead of one company, so you can see the field before you pitch it. You name the category, and Spyglasses writes the prompts buyers ask, runs them across ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews, then ranks every brand AI names.
Category Tracking at a glance
- You don't need a client, a domain, or a logo. A category is just the market you want to watch.
- Every brand AI names gets ranked by share of answers, so you can see who's already the default.
- Shares don't add up to 100. One answer usually names several brands, and plenty name nobody at all.
- Add markets as locations and the same category gets scored city by city, where the leader is often someone else.

How it works
Four steps, and the first answers land tomorrow
There's no site to connect and no tag to install. You're describing a market, not a company.
Name the category
Describe what buyers are choosing between and who they are. No website needed.
Generate the prompts buyers ask
Spyglasses writes the questions real buyers put to AI, then runs them every day across five platforms.
See who AI names
Every brand in the answers gets ranked by the share of answers it appears in, with a 7-day change on each one.
Break it out by market
Add cities or regions as locations. Each one runs the same prompts against local answers and gets its own leader.
For PR teams
Walk in already knowing the field
You can't pitch a client on AI visibility until you can show them what AI says. Track the category first and the pitch writes itself: here's who AI names, here's where you'd sit, here's the gap. After you win the work, the same data tells you which publishers AI is already reading.
- Show a prospect the answers before they've spent a dollar.
- Find the outlets AI cites for the category, then pitch those first.
- Watch a client's competitors move week to week without tracking each one separately.
For agencies
One property covers a whole practice area
Measurement on its own is a treadmill. The point of tracking a category is what you do next: which prospect to call, which publisher to pitch, which claim to sharpen. Track the vertical once and reuse it across the pitch, the onboarding, and the quarterly review. When a client signs, track their brand as its own property and keep the category running beside it.
- Prospect a vertical with one tracked property instead of one per lead.
- New entrants show up on their own, the first day AI names them.
- Report on market share of answers alongside your client's own numbers.
Add markets as locations and every city gets its own ranking, with its own leader.

Setup takes a sentence about the market you care about. The first ranking arrives the next morning.
Category Tracking FAQ
Common questions about tracking a whole market in AI answers.
What counts as a category?
Anything buyers choose between: a product category, a service, a regional market, a niche you sell into. You name it and describe it in a sentence. There's no website and no focal brand.
How is share of answers different from share of voice?
Share of voice compares one brand against the competitors you name. Share of answers ranks every brand AI names across the whole field, so the values don't add up to 100. One answer usually names several brands.
Do I need a website or a client to start?
No. A category property has no site, so there's no crawl, no site audit, and no brand consistency score. You get the ranking, the movers, the key messages, and the citations.
Can I track the same category in more than one city?
Yes. Add cities or regions as locations and each market runs the same prompts against local answers, with its own ranking and its own leader. The leader often changes from one market to the next.
What if AI names a brand I don't care about?
Deactivate it and it stays out. Brand discovery only adds names that aren't on your list yet, so your manual cleanups stick from one day to the next.
